More than 22 lakh students will appear in NEET-UG re-exam
NEET-UG Exam: Preparations for NEET-UG 2026 re-exam have been completed. Authorities across the country have stepped up security and logistics arrangements to conduct the exams. From deployment of additional police force and CCTV surveillance at the examination centers to transport and medical assistance, all kinds of preparations have been intensified. More than 22.79 lakh candidates are expected to appear in this examination. The exam will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode from 2 pm to 5:15 pm in 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has advised candidates to reach their centers between 11 am and 1:30 pm as the entry gates will close at 1:30 pm.
Exam will be held in 551 cities
The National Testing Agency (NTA) issued a release saying that this examination to be held on June 21, 2026, is being conducted at 5,440 centers in 551 cities in India and 14 centers abroad. The exam is being conducted in English and 12 Indian languages. A total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed at all the centers for the examination, whose feed will be monitored virtually at the national, state and ministry levels. 51,311 jammers have been installed to protect the examination from electronic interference.
There will be strict monitoring of candidates
A large number of employees have been deployed for exam day duty. There will be two invigilators in each of the more than 95,000 examination rooms, and more than ten additional examination officers deployed at every centre. Candidate verification has been further strengthened; For this, 38,795 frisking staff and 48,448 staff have been deployed for biometric verification. Biometric manpower has been doubled and face authentication has also been adopted so that verification is done smoothly and lines at the centers are minimized. A Center System Officer (CSO) has been deployed at all 5,440 centers to monitor the CCTV feed and resolve any technical issues on the spot.
There will be 40-50 security personnel at each center
State and district administrations have made massive security preparations, which include deployment of police, paramilitary forces, Indian Air Force and postal department. On an average, around 40 to 50 security personnel have been deployed at every examination centre. Bank officials have been deployed in around 1,500 bank branches holding confidential material, and the Department of Posts will coordinate with its teams to collect OMR sheets from around 700 collection centers across the country. Review meetings have been held with chief secretaries and senior officials of all states, and the districts have confirmed the Centre’s arrangements.
Special facilities for candidates
In collaboration with State Governments, student-friendly facilities are being provided at the examination centres. These include drinking water, ORS, ambulance and shaded waiting areas for parents. Additional measures for the candidates include wall clock in every examination room, extra pages for rough-work (pages are provided at the beginning of the booklet for the convenience of left-handed candidates), and extended examination time to compensate for the time taken in entry formalities.

NTA is keeping a close watch on social media and taking strict action against those spreading rumors and fake claims of “paper leak” which cause unnecessary stress to the candidates. Candidates and parents are advised to rely only on official information from NTA and ignore unconfirmed messages. NTA has appealed to all concerned to extend full support to the candidates and help in reducing stress on the exam day, so that more than 22 lakh candidates who are the future doctors of the country can take the exam in a calm, safe and supportive environment.
Re-exam happening after paper leak
In fact, after allegations of paper leak and administrative irregularities during the examination held on May 3, re-examination of NEET UG 2026 was ordered. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating this case and has arrested many people. After this controversy, there have been reports of protests by students in many parts of the country. In view of this environment, the authorities of different states have focused on tightening security and improving coordination, so that the examination can be conducted smoothly and fairly for more than 22.79 lakh candidates appearing for the examination on June 21.
