Iran claims: Progress towards ending conflict, Lebanon ceasefire becomes biggest challenge

Tehran/Switzerland. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has said that significant progress has been made towards ending the regional conflict with the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, but the effective implementation of the ceasefire in Lebanon still remains the biggest test.

In a statement released on the social media platform

He claimed that concessions related to oil and petrochemical exports have been given, some restrictions have been relaxed and work on reconstruction and development plans has started.

However, he clarified that the real success of these efforts will depend on the full implementation of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

This statement came at a time when the first round of high-level technical talks between Iran and America was concluded in Switzerland.

According to Iranian officials, the multilateral (quadrilateral) meetings were put on hold following US President Donald Trump’s recent comments and threatening statements, although it has been agreed to continue talks at the technical level.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that the main objective of the talks was to discuss the implementation of previous agreements. He said it would not be possible to reach a final agreement without an end to the war and regional stability.

The talks also made progress on issues such as authorization of Iran’s oil sales, release of frozen financial resources and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. He said Iran will keep a close eye on the implementation of US commitments.

Meanwhile, Qatar and Pakistan issued a joint statement describing the talks as positive and constructive. The statement said it was agreed to develop an institutional mechanism for future technical discussions and set up a high-level committee for political monitoring.

According to sources, Iran has made it clear that it will not be possible to move forward on other issues without full implementation of the conditions related to ending military action on all fronts, including Lebanon.

On the other hand, reacting to the recent comments of US President Donald Trump, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf said that pressure and threats will not bring any change in Iran’s policies.

He warned that the Iranian armed forces are ready to respond to any challenge. Adherence to the ceasefire in Lebanon amid regional tensions and the progress of Iran-US talks will remain an important focus of West Asian politics in the coming days.
