Notorious criminal Lalan Singh, carrying a reward of Rs. 1.25 lakh, killed in an encounter with UP STF in Saharanpur, one accomplice absconding.

Lallan Singh alias Lallan, a notorious criminal carrying a reward of Rs 1.25 lakh and a resident of Samastipur district of Bihar, was killed in an encounter with UP STF in Saharanpur late on Sunday night. The encounter took place on Sarsawa-Nakur road when the STF team was checking for suspicious vehicles and criminals. During this time, one of his associates escaped taking advantage of the darkness, in search of whom police teams are conducting raids.
According to ADG STF Amitabh Yash, Lalan Singh son of Shiv Shankar Singh was wanted in many serious criminal cases for a long time. A reward of ₹ 1 lakh was announced on him by Varanasi Police Commissionerate and ₹ 25 thousand by Chandauli Police. He was a resident of Anandgolwa village of Mohiuddin Nagar police station area of Samastipur district of Bihar.

On the night of June 21, the STF team under the leadership of ASP Lal Pratap Singh was checking on the Sarsawa-Nakur road. Meanwhile, on information about the presence of suspected miscreants, the police laid siege. Seeing themselves surrounded, the miscreants started firing at the police. In retaliation, Lalan Singh was shot and seriously injured, while one of his companions managed to escape from the spot.
The injured criminal was first taken to the Community Health Center, Sarsawa, from where he was referred to the district hospital. The doctors there declared him dead after examination.
Wanted in many serious cases including seven murders
According to police records, Lalan Singh along with his gang was involved in many organized crimes. He was facing serious charges like murder of seven people, bank robbery, cash van robbery and robbery of government weapons. Two sub-inspectors, a bank cashier and a security guard are also said to be among the dead.
He was also wanted in the incident of shooting a sub-inspector and looting his service pistol in Varanasi on 8 November 2022 and the incident of firing and robbery in Chandauli on 1 November 2022.
Search continues for absconding accomplice
Police said that one of his associates had absconded during the encounter, and an intensive search operation is being conducted to trace him. Also, efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest other members of the gang.
