India-South Korea brainstormed on giving new momentum to strategic partnership

Sol. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met his counterpart Cho Hyun in South Korea’s capital Seoul on Wednesday and held extensive discussions on further strengthening the strategic and economic cooperation between the two countries. The meeting reviewed cooperation in important areas like trade, investment, defence, shipbuilding, technology, clean energy, culture and people-to-people contacts.

After the meeting, Jaishankar said on the social media platform ‘X’ that he had a meaningful conversation with the Foreign Minister of South Korea. He said that special emphasis was laid on taking forward the discussions and agreements reached during the recent visit of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to India. Both sides also discussed new possibilities of cooperation in startups, fintech and multilateral platforms.

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said that President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to India has given new impetus to bilateral relations. He said that both the countries reviewed the implementation of previous decisions related to trade, investment and financial cooperation and agreed to make them more effective.

Cho Hyun praised the ‘Korea Week’ program organized by the Government of India and said that it shows India’s commitment towards solving the challenges of Korean companies investing in the Indian market. He also announced that a similar special interaction program for Indian companies will be organized in South Korea soon.

During the meeting the two leaders also discussed global and regional issues. In particular, the current situation in the Middle East and its potential economic implications were discussed. Both countries agreed to maintain close contact and coordination to deal with international challenges.

Jaishankar said that in the current global scenario, cooperation between like-minded countries, shared values ​​and mutual trust has become more important than ever. He expressed confidence that the partnership between India and South Korea will become broader and stronger in the future.
