Light rain forecast in Delhi today, heavy rain in north-eastern states, flood at many places

New Delhi. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that light rain with thunderstorms is expected in the national capital Delhi today. According to IMD, south-west monsoon can reach Delhi in five-six days. Conditions are also favorable for the advance of monsoon into remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and south-eastern Rajasthan in the next two to three days.

According to IMD, Sunday was the hottest day recorded in Delhi in the last two years. The minimum temperature was 31.1 degrees Celsius, which is 3.2 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature recorded was 41.8 degrees Celsius. Due to humidity, people felt the temperature to be 50.7 degrees Celsius. Earlier on June 14, 2024, the minimum temperature was recorded at 33.3 degrees Celsius.

Skymet predicts that if favorable conditions persist, monsoon may reach Delhi by July 4. According to Skymet, dry winds coming from Pakistan and moist winds coming from the Arabian Sea are mixing. Due to this, clouds are forming, but due to lack of sufficient moisture, widespread rain is not occurring. Generally, clouds are developing during the day when temperatures reach their peak, reducing the chances of rain.

Meanwhile, life is badly affected due to excessive rains and floods in the northeastern states. Three people died in flash floods in Keyi Penyor area of ​​Arunachal Pradesh. In many areas, houses have been damaged and infrastructure has been damaged due to floods and landslides. 10 districts of the state are affected by rain and relief work is going on. The department has predicted rainfall of up to 200 mm till Monday.

The bailey bridge connecting Fidang and Sankalang has been washed away due to heavy rains in Sikkim’s Jongu area. Due to this this area got cut off from other parts of the state. No casualties have been reported. The Meteorological Center located in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, has predicted that the rainy season will continue in the state till July 4. The Center said that a new western disturbance is likely to become active in northwest India from July 2. The department has issued an alert of rain with strong winds at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour and thunderstorm at different places in the state between June 30 and July 4.

IMD has predicted scattered rain for Punjab and Haryana on June 29, July 1 and 2. Sporadic rain was recorded at many places in Rajasthan including Pilani in Jhunjhunu district on Sunday. Pilani received seven mm rainfall since morning. There is a possibility of increase in rainfall activities over south-eastern and eastern Rajasthan from July 2.

The department said that there is a possibility of pre-monsoon rain in the plains of Jammu and surrounding areas today. Besides, heavy rain, thunder and strong winds have also been predicted at some places. Dehradun Meteorological Center said that the temperature in many parts of Uttarakhand remains much above normal. The Center has issued a yellow alert for thunder, lightning, heavy to very heavy rain and strong winds at different places in the hill districts.
