Is Russia buying petrol made in India? Big claim in the report regarding Nayara Energy
New Delhi: Russia, which is facing fuel shortage after Ukraine attacks, is now buying petrol refined in India. According to a Reuters report, Russia has purchased consignments of petrol produced by Nayara Energy through international trading companies. However, Nayara Energy has not yet issued any official statement in this regard.
How is Indian petrol reaching Russia?
According to the report, Indian companies are not selling petrol directly to Russia. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also said on Thursday that Indian companies are not selling fuel directly to Russia, but it is possible that fuel made in India is reaching Russia through trading companies. Reuters had earlier also reported that a consignment of petrol had been sent from India to Russia via sea route.
Why did the name Nayara Energy come into existence?
Russian state oil company Rosneft has a 49% stake in Naira Energy. Naira Energy has become largely dependent on trading companies for the purchase of crude oil and export of refined fuel after the European Union (EU) imposed sanctions on the company last year. The company’s 4 lakh barrel per day capacity refinery located in Vadinar, Gujarat is currently processing mainly Russian crude oil.
What is claimed in the report?
According to Reuters, at least 60,000 metric tons of petrol has been sent from India to Russia so far. Sources said that two consignments of 30,000 to 40,000 metric tonnes were dispatched. The report said that a tanker named ‘Agni’ had loaded petrol from Vadinar on June 20. Initial documents listed its location as Fujairah, but tracking of the ship showed that it moved north, crossing the Suez Canal without stopping there.
At present, there has been no official confirmation on this report from Russia or Nayara Energy. At the same time, the Indian government says that Indian companies are not selling petrol directly to Russia.
