Aamir Khan’s next with Ashutosh Gowariker gets title

Aamir Khan and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, twenty-five years after the iconic The river,  are working together again, this time for a sports drama.

The said film is based on the life of Lala Amarnath, one of Indian cricket’s earliest big names and the first player to score a Test century for the country.

As per reports, the story is set during the 1947 Partition, so it is not just a cricket film, it is tied to a period that changed the country completely.

Shooting is likely to start in October 2026, and prep work is already underway.

Bollywood Hungama has learnt through sources close to the production that the film now has a title.

Sources say the makers have chosen Lalkaar. One source said the title works because it instantly reminds people of The river but it is not trying to be a copy of it as it is a new film with its own story.

The source also mentioned that like The riverthis one too is an emotional film built around cricket, not just a straight sports drama.

There is no word yet on who will play the second lead opposite the 61-year-old superstar, but that announcement is expected soon.

The writing is being handled by Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi, so expectations on the script front are already high, given their track record. Excel Entertainment is producing the film.

For the unversedRiver was nominated for an Oscar and is still considered one of the finest sports dramas to come out of Hindi cinema. So naturally, people will expect to watch a good entertainer.
