Congress will corner the government in the monsoon session, will ask questions on many important issues
New Delhi. Congress has prepared a strategy to corner the Central Government on many important issues in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said the Congress will seek answers from the government on issues like foreign policy, Special Intensive Review (SIR) in Bihar, functioning of the Election Commission, delimitation, one nation-one election and alleged donation irregularities in the Ayodhya Ram temple. They allege that the government is avoiding discussion on serious issues related to democratic institutions.
Jairam Ramesh said that 24 opposition parties and independent MP Kapil Sibal have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India regarding the SIR process in Bihar, expressing concern over the functioning of the Election Commission. They claim that names of a large number of voters are being removed from the voter list, raising questions on the fairness and credibility of the electoral process. He said that Congress hopes that the Supreme Court will intervene appropriately in this matter.
He alleged that the government may bring bills related to delimitation and ‘one nation-one election’ in the monsoon session. Congress will oppose these proposals and will also raise questions related to social justice and federal structure. Referring to the allegations of alleged donation irregularities in Ayodhya Ram temple, he demanded an impartial investigation.
On the issue of foreign policy, Jairam Ramesh said that the Indian security forces performed their responsibilities to their full capacity, but at the diplomatic level the government is avoiding answering many questions. He demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament on the rising trade deficit with China, the proposed trade agreement with America and developments related to Pakistan, saying that Congress will hold the government accountable on all these issues in the monsoon session.
