Ronaldo became emotional on his farewell from the World Cup, said – Now I will spend time with family

Arlington. Portugal’s legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the FIFA World Cup 2026 was the last World Cup of his career.

An emotional Ronaldo said after the 0-1 defeat to Spain in the round of 16 that he is bidding farewell to the World Cup, but will not take any hasty decisions on his international future.

Speaking to the media after the match, Ronaldo said that Spain got a bit of luck in winning and the match could have gone in any direction.

He said, “It is very sad for me to be out of the World Cup like this. I gave my all. I tried my best and I am completely satisfied that I did not leave any stone unturned.

Yes, this was my last World Cup, but now I will spend time with my family and think about the future in peace. I will not take any decision in haste.”

Ronaldo, 41, did not clarify whether this was his last international match for Portugal or not. He said that he does not want his personal decision to overshadow the team’s campaign.

“I don’t take decisions based on emotions,” he said.

Ronaldo expressed pride in his journey with Portugal, saying that he gave the country achievements which it had never achieved before.

He said, “I won three major titles for Portugal. Before Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal had not won any major title. The European Championship won in 2016 with the national team is as big an achievement for me as winning the World Cup.”

With Portugal’s exit from the World Cup, the tenure of head coach Roberto Martínez also ended. Ronaldo also expressed respect for him.

“I enjoyed working with him. He is a fantastic coach and a wonderful human being. He should be appreciated for what he has done for Portugal. I thank him and wish him a bright future,” he said.

Al-Nasr’s star forward concluded, “It always hurts to be eliminated from a big tournament. It was the World Cup and our team was constantly playing better. In my view, we did well.

The match could have gone either way, but that’s football. We have to recover from this defeat and move forward. It is disappointing to be eliminated like this, but we must move forward with our heads held high with pride.”
