Adulterated milk business busted in Mumbai; accused arrested

Mumbai. Continuous action is being taken against the business of adulterated milk in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Unit-12 of Mumbai Crime Branch, in collaboration with Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Brihanmumbai Food Safety Officers, has arrested a person from Dahisar (East) area. The accused was playing with people’s health by mixing dirty water in the packets of famous milk companies.

Officials had received information that formula milk was being prepared in Room No. B-3 of Dubey Chawl No. 2 near Rajesh Compound in Dahisar (East). Based on the information, the team raided and arrested the accused on the spot. About 470 liters of milk was recovered during the raid. Investigation revealed that milk was extracted from packets of genuine milk of well-known brands like Amul Taza, Amul Gold, Amul Buffalo and Gokul, mixed with dirty water, re-sealed the packet and sold in the market as genuine product. During the operation, 327 packets of fake branded milk, packet resealing material and a mobile phone were also seized. The total estimated value of the seized goods is said to be Rs 39,750. At the same time, adulterated milk worth about Rs 29,750 was destroyed on the spot.

According to the police, the accused used to take milk out of genuine milk packets and mix dirty water in it. After this, those packets were resealed and sold in the market under the original brand name. Such adulterated milk can pose a serious threat to the health of children and the elderly, especially. In this matter, a case has been registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and Food Safety Act. Currently, the accused is in police custody and Unit-12 of Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case.
