Online grocery delivery platform Swiggy Instamart has been issued nine notices by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The action was taken following continuous complaints from customers alleging delivery of spoiled, contaminated and expired food items.

Serious complaint regarding baby food
According to FSSAI, in one case a customer found a baby food product in bad condition. Investigation revealed that the goods were not stored properly. The most shocking thing was that after the customer returned it, the same defective product was allegedly delivered again.
Complaints about rotten eggs, spoiled milk and damaged packing
The regulatory body also received several other complaints in which customers claimed to have received rotten eggs, spoiled milk and food items with damaged packaging. On the basis of these complaints, FSSAI has sought a reply from the company.

What did Swiggy say?
Swiggy said in a regulatory filing that the issue was not related to food safety, but to update some administrative information related to the license. According to the company, this issue has been resolved after getting the revised FSSAI license on July 9, 2026. The company also said that no penalty has been imposed on it in this matter and it will not have any major impact on the business.

FSSAI has been continuously taking action on violations of food safety rules in recent times. This week, notices have been sent to many companies regarding misleading claims, wrong labeling and violation of food safety standards. The concerned companies have been asked to respond within seven days.
