The more MLAs study, the more strongly they will raise public voice: Om Birla
- Maintain a tendency to learn from senior MLAs: Lok Sabha Speaker
Jaipur. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that the Assembly is the direct and most powerful medium to know the difficulties of the entire state. By knowing about the problems of common people from here, we can pave the way for their solutions.
Birla was addressing the inaugural ceremony of Amrit Mahotsav organized on the completion of 75 years of Rajasthan Assembly on Wednesday. While calling upon the young MLAs, he said that no one becomes a great leader by creating ruckus in the well of the House, only meaningful speeches and logical debates given in the House become the real identity of a public representative. Rajasthan Assembly has been the biggest school of democratic values, dialogue and consensus. The more MLAs study, listen and understand the depth of the subjects, the more effectively they will be able to raise the voice of the public in the House. The speeches given in the House are read and remembered for years, therefore public representatives should carry forward the tradition of dignified and factual debate.
The Lok Sabha Speaker said that positive criticism of the government strengthens democracy and the Assembly is the most effective platform to raise the problems of the people. The more meaningful the questions are, the more accountable the government will become. Describing the Assembly as his first school, he said that it was from here that he got the knowledge of democratic values and parliamentary decorum. He also stressed on maintaining the dignity of the post of Speaker and said that it is the biggest responsibility of the Presiding Officer to maintain restraint, spontaneity and impartiality in every situation.
Birla asked the young members to maintain the attitude of learning from senior MLAs. Stay in the House for as long as possible, after saying your point and first listen to other members also. The great legislature of Rajasthan has given great leaders to the country and has played an important role in the progress of the nation. There is full confidence that in future also the traditions of this House and its legislative customs and policies will remain at the forefront in strengthening the prestige of the nation and democracy.
Birla said that apart from being the land of heroes, Rajasthan is also a great land of democratic values. The democratic consciousness of Rajasthan is not just a legacy of seventy-five years but of thousands of years. In the last seven and a half decades, this House has strengthened democracy through many historic bills, visionary debates and people-oriented decisions.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that the time of the House should be used in the interest of the public and MLAs should be given more time and focus on solving the problems of the public. In democracy, governments change but the resolve to serve the public never changes. Constitution, good governance, public welfare and development are the top priorities of the government.
He said that the glorious history of Rajasthan Assembly is a matter of pride for all of us. From 1952 till now, all the past and present public representatives have contributed significantly in laying a strong foundation for the development of the state. Democracy is a celebration of our unwavering faith and aspirations for democracy. It is the responsibility of every public representative to live up to the expectations of the 8 crore people of Rajasthan. Appealing to the government and the opposition to work together on issues of public interest, he said that there may be differences but public interest should always be paramount.
Emphasizing the need to connect the new generation with parliamentary traditions and democratic values, the Chief Minister said that the experience of former public representatives is inspiring for the coming generations. Besides, maintaining public trust is the biggest responsibility of every public representative.
