New York. The political dispute between Israel and New York Mayor Zoran Mamdani has deepened after a knife attack on Thursday in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, USA.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar described the incident as a “horrible anti-Semitic attack”, alleging that the mayor’s statements created an environment in which Jews were being targeted.

According to, New York Police said that a Jewish and an Asian man were injured in the attack. Both have been admitted to the hospital and their condition is said to be out of danger.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has arrested 51-year-old Raul Morales in connection with the attack. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the attacker allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” during both attacks, according to victims and witnesses.
Police are investigating the matter and trying to find out whether the incident falls under the ambit of a hate crime. Officials said the suspect’s mental condition is also an aspect of the investigation.
New York Mayor Zoran Mamdani also condemned the incident, saying that witnesses and victims had heard the attacker shouting “Allahu Akbar”. He added that “there is no place for such hateful and despicable attacks in our city.”
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said on social media that the violence was not a sudden incident but was the result of long-standing alleged inflammatory rhetoric against Israel.
He appealed to Mayor Mamdani to take strong action against anti-Semitism and ensure the safety of New York’s Jewish community.
It is noteworthy that Democratic Socialist leader Zoran Mamdani has earlier also strongly criticized Israel’s Gaza policy. He accused Israel of genocide in Gaza and also criticized the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Due to his comments, some Jewish organizations called him anti-Semitic, although Mamdani has rejected these allegations, saying that he is against all forms of anti-Semitism and is committed to the safety of New York’s Jewish community.
Meanwhile, the New York Police is engaged in a detailed investigation of the case and is trying to find out the real motive behind the attack.
