Bengaluru. The Indian women’s hockey team left for Europe on Wednesday morning. The FIH Hockey World Cup will be played from 15 to 30 August, hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands 2026.
The team traveled from Bengaluru to Mumbai and then flew to Frankfurt, Germany, where it will complete the last leg of its preparations before the big event.
During their stay in Frankfurt, the Indian team will play two practice matches against Germany on July 31 and August 1 to improve the team’s coordination and acclimatise to the European conditions.
Following the training camp, the team will leave for Amsterdam on August 2 to continue their preparations for the World Cup in the Netherlands.
India will begin their campaign against China on August 16, followed by matches against South Africa and England in Pool D.
Before the team left, captain Salima Tete expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, saying, “The entire team is excited for the upcoming challenge. Our training has been good, and now we have to maintain that momentum in the practice matches and then in the World Cup.
Facing China in our first match will be an important test, and we want to start the tournament on a positive note. As a team, we are determined to give our best performance and bring glory to the country.”
With months of preparation and significant training in Germany (including two practice matches against the host team), the team is eager to get off to a good start.
