Katihar: Strictness in road safety campaign, fine of Rs 1.58 lakh

Katihar. A special checking campaign was conducted by the District Transport Department on Monday with the aim of strictly following road safety rules and curbing road accidents.

During this seat belt and helmet checking campaign conducted near Kolasi Degree College, a total of Rs 1,58,000 was collected as fine from the drivers violating the rules.

District Transport Officer said that it is very important to run such continuous vehicle checking campaigns to reduce the trend of deaths and serious injuries in road accidents.

According to departmental instructions, under the special checking campaign, rules have been fixed to conduct helmet checking on Monday of the first week and seat belt checking on Thursday, and seat belt checking on Monday of the third week and helmet checking campaign on Thursday.

This entire action is being taken as per the guidelines of the Honorable Supreme Court and its committee constituted on road safety.

This includes mandatory use of helmets for both the driver and pillion rider while driving a two-wheeler, adherence to lane discipline on the road and strong enforcement action against wrong-side driving.

Apart from this, action of confiscation and fine will also be taken as per rules against those using unauthorized red-blue lights and hooters on vehicles.
