Abu Dhabi/Washington. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a big step after Iran’s ballistic missile attack.
The UAE today banned all trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran with immediate effect. The UAE has taken this step in view of the increasing instability in the region and increasing threats to regional and international peace and security.
The decision was announced by Afra Al Hameli, Director of the Strategic Communications Department of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He said that these restrictions will remain in force until further notice.
Amid increasing tension in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump said that there are no talks with Iran. The Strait of Hormuz is now in US territory.
According to Gulf News report, after two Iranian ballistic missiles targeting maritime navigation fell into the sea, the UAE has halted all activities, trade transactions and financial transactions with Iran until further orders.
Meanwhile, US President Trump said that there is no plan to negotiate with Iran. He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and operational despite limited maritime traffic and reports of an attack on a ship.
Trump also posted a photo describing the waterway as new US territory. Iran has reiterated its conditions for reopening the strait.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said mediators are awaiting a bilateral Iran-Oman agreement on Hormuz before broader US-Iran talks can resume.
Afra Al Hameli, director of the UAE Foreign Ministry’s Strategic Communications Department, said it rejected all Iran’s allegations on economic relations.
Al Hameli reiterated the UAE’s commitment to dialogue, cooperation and regional integration to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Al Hameli said that in view of the regional tensions that threaten regional and international peace and security, all types of trade, commercial transactions and financial transactions with Iran have been banned. These measures will remain in force until further orders.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates asked the countrymen to trust only government information. The country’s air defense system has detected two ballistic missiles fired from Iran towards UAE.
The Defense Ministry said the investigation showed the missiles were targeting maritime shipping. A missile fell into the sea outside UAE territorial waters. The second fell in the country’s maritime border.
The ministry clarified that it has had no impact. The Defense Ministry has put the UAE on high alert. Fully prepared to respond to any threat targeting the country’s security or maritime navigation.
