Dhamtari. Highway surveillance team has been activated in Dhamtari to strengthen the road safety system and curb road accidents.
This dedicated team formed on national and major routes will keep a close watch on black spots, accident prone areas and illegal parking.
The team will regularly monitor the highways and identify encroachments, wrong parking and other reasons hindering traffic and take corrective action.
Along with this, action will also be taken to remove the helpless cattle roaming on the roads. The objective of the monitoring team is to identify sensitive places and take necessary steps in time and ensure safe and smooth traffic system for the drivers.
This initiative of the administration is expected to increase safety in accident prone areas and make enforcement of traffic rules effective. To curb road accidents and ensure safe traffic on national and major routes, a dedicated highway monitoring team has been formed in the district.
The team formed on the instructions of Collector and District Magistrate Abinash Mishra will regularly monitor the highways and identify accident prone places and take corrective action.
This initiative has been taken in compliance with the instructions of the Transport Department, Government of Chhattisgarh dated June 19, 2026 and the guidelines related to road safety under the instructions of the Supreme Court.
Collector and District Magistrate will be the chairman and Superintendent of Police/Additional Superintendent of Police will be the member-secretary of the team. Apart from this, Forest Divisional Officer, Chief Executive Officer District Panchayat, NHAI Project Director, SDM of Dhamtari, Kurud and Nagari, Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department, Chief Medical and Health Officer and District Transport Officer have been made members.
The joint team led by Additional District Magistrate Indira Deohari conducted field inspection of various routes and sensitive places.
Officials from Transport Department, PWD, NHAI, Police and Revenue Department took stock of the road condition, traffic system, movement of heavy vehicles, overloading, speeding, encroachment and other risks.
Various places including Banpela Dhruv, Azad Tires Sambalpur, Kavita Steel, Bhagyalakshmi Car Park, Fauji Dhaba, Rajendra Dhaba, Kaka-Bhatija Dhaba, Lucky Dhaba and Khapri Parking were inspected. The obstructions to traffic caused by goods kept on the roadside, temporary shops, dhabas and other activities were examined.
While taking disciplinary action against drivers violating traffic rules, they were advised to follow the prescribed speed limit, avoid overloading and carry necessary documents.
The team will now continuously monitor black spots, unauthorized cuts, encroachment, illegal parking, roadside activities, overloading and speeding. Collector Mishra has instructed the officials to identify accident prone areas and ensure timely improvements.
The administration has appealed to drivers, business establishments and citizens to follow traffic rules and cooperate in the road safety campaign.
