Kathmandu. Nepal’s Home Minister Sudan Gurung has urged to include necessary legal provisions in the proposed bill to give voting rights to voters living abroad and outside their constituency.
He made this request during the discussion with the Election Commission regarding the draft of the Election Management Bill and election reforms.
Home Minister Gurung also urged the Election Commission to start technical preparations accordingly. He said that the present government is committed to ensuring voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad.
Gurung said that in the last elections itself, the government made every effort to ensure that Nepali citizens living abroad get the right to vote, but at that time it was not possible due to some technical reasons.
He has asked the Election Commission to take necessary steps to solve the problems faced in the last elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Manbahadur Karki said that legal, institutional and technical preparations have been started for this system. He expressed hope that the government will provide the necessary resources and manpower for this.
Karki said that the Commission is actively working to further strengthen the cleanliness, independence and fairness of the elections and to improve the process and system of the elections in line with the wishes of the common voters.
