Amritsar. To crack down on the drug trade in Punjab’s Amritsar district, the Police Commissionerate’s team launched a major search operation early on Wednesday. During the operation, the police have rounded up about 10 suspicious people, who are being interrogated. Along with this, about 8 to 10 suspicious vehicles have also been seized.
Amritsar Police took this action in Angarh area of the district. The police cordoned off the entire area early in the morning and investigated houses and suspicious places through different teams. During this period, about 150 policemen were involved in the operation. Due to this action of the police, there was chaos in the area for a long time.
Talking to the media, DCP Law and Order Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu said that as per the instructions of the Police Commissioner, a special search model and operation against drugs was prepared. Police were getting information that some people were secretly doing drug business in some nearby localities including Angarh, Palla and Shekhan. On the basis of this information, on Wednesday morning the police sealed the entire area in a planned manner and started the search operation.
The DCP said that ADCP-1 along with other senior officers, the station in-charge of the central area, the D Division police station in-charge and a large number of police forces were involved in the operation. Different police teams were formed and checking was done in different parts of the area. The police also gathered information about the drug situation in the area by talking to the suspected people.
He said that during the campaign, some people told the police that drug trade has reduced in the area compared to before, but the police are still investigating the matter in depth. Police have recovered some narcotics during the search operation. Apart from this, liquor has also been recovered.
According to DCP Sandhu, the police have rounded up about 10 suspicious people during the operation, who are being interrogated. Along with this, about 8 to 10 suspicious vehicles have also been seized. In these, deficiencies related to numbers and documents of some vehicles were revealed.
Police officials say that all the suspects and vehicles are being thoroughly investigated. Further legal action will be taken based on the recovery and enquiry. At present, this police operation is being considered as an important action towards curbing the drug network and suspicious activities in the area.
