Beijing, September 8 (IANS). China’s National Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Monday released the ’15th Five-Year Plan for Information and Communications Industry Development (2026-2030)’. According to the plan, by 2030, China will establish a new generation communications network with wider coverage and better performance. Along with this, an advanced, secure and controllable information and communication industry system will also be created.
13 major goals have been set in the plan. These include increasing the revenue of the country’s information and communications industry to 41 trillion yuan, increasing the total cumulative investment in information infrastructure to 38 trillion yuan, aiming to increase the total turnover of telecommunication services by an average of 7 percent every year, increasing the intelligent computing capacity to 9,800 exaflops, aiming to increase the penetration rate of 5G and 5G-advanced users to 95 percent, etc.
Along with this, 26 major works have also been included in the plan, which are divided into six areas. These include building information infrastructure, information and communications industry systems, industry governance systems and governance capacity, network and data security, expansion of applications, and global development. Key initiatives include commercial deployment of 6G, accelerated construction of national integrated computing network, research on space computing technology, ‘5G+Peitou’ integration, embedded SIM (eSIM), phased expansion of off-grid communications, etc.
In addition, the plan also includes measures such as setting up an anti-fraud laboratory for the industry, promoting ‘AI+manufacturing’, expanding international internet bandwidth, increasing global coverage of satellite communication networks and further expanding openness in the telecommunications sector.
At the same time, 13 special sections have also been kept in the scheme. These include areas such as computing infrastructure, satellite-ground integration, intelligent agent interconnection networks, 6G research, platform economy and industrial Internet. Under this, a target has been set to establish 5 lakh new 5G-advanced base stations, promote the application of communication services from satellite directly to mobile phones and conduct research on the key technologies of 6G.
Emphasis has been laid on optimizing the allocation of resources such as land, sea, power, data and frequency along with various policy measures for successful implementation of the scheme. Also, financial institutions have been demanded to provide more support to the information and communication sector.
