Monsoon has once again become active in Rajasthan. On Saturday, light to moderate rain occurred in many areas of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota and Udaipur divisions.
It rained the most in Udaipur division, where about two inches of water fell at some places. At the same time, people got some relief from the heat due to light rain in Jodhpur city and surrounding areas of western Rajasthan after about a month.
The Meteorological Department has today issued a yellow alert for rain in 29 districts of the state. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy season in south-eastern parts of Rajasthan may continue till September 16.
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in many areas in the next two to three days. On the other hand, the heat has started increasing in western Rajasthan due to strong westerly winds.
The Meteorological Department has indicated that the withdrawal phase of monsoon may begin in the western districts from the end of next week. During the last 24 hours, Nimbahera in Chittorgarh district received maximum rainfall of 46 mm.
Apart from this, up to one inch of water rained at many places in Banswara, Jhalawar, Pratapgarh, Udaipur, Jaipur, Rajsamand, Sikar, Nagaur, Pali, Kota, Dungarpur, Bundi, Bhilwara, Baran and Ajmer districts. Due to rain, the weather became pleasant in many areas, while farmers are also expected to get relief.
Drought-like conditions are prevailing in many districts of western Rajasthan due to less rainfall in August and early September. Meanwhile, after the monsoon became active again from September 11, there was light rain in Jodhpur on Saturday evening.
This rain, which occurred after about a month, brought some relief to the city residents from the heat. However, adequate rain is still awaited in the western districts.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon trough extends to Southern Chhattisgarh, Gopalpur and Bay of Bengal via Jaisalmer, Kota, Rajgarh and Betul.
A low pressure area is active in southern Chhattisgarh and surrounding areas, which is moving towards western and north-western direction. Due to its effect, light to moderate rain is expected in Rajasthan for the next few days.
Rajasthan has received less than normal rainfall so far during this monsoon season. The normal average rainfall in the state since June 1 is 410.1 mm, while 304.9 mm rainfall has occurred so far this season.
Due to dry weather in western Rajasthan and the influence of western winds, the heat has started increasing. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was measured at 40.5 degrees Celsius in Jaisalmer and 40.8 degrees Celsius in Barmer.
According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of heat may persist in the western districts in the next days, while the rainy season is likely to continue in south-eastern Rajasthan.
