Tehran. Amidst the announcement of new sanctions on Iranian airlines by the US, Iran has warned neighboring countries not to cooperate in implementing these sanctions. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said countries cooperating with US sanctions could face retaliation.
In an interview with Iran’s semi-official Student News Network (SNN) on Wednesday, Rezaei urged neighboring countries to avoid joining the US measures. They specifically called for non-cooperation in imposing sanctions on Iranian commercial flights, passenger services and freight traffic.
According to Rezaee, if countries in the region cooperate in enforcing sanctions imposed on Iran’s air transportation, action could be taken in response by closing or disrupting those countries’ airports and aviation routes.
He also indicated a tough stance regarding possible future talks with America. Rezaei said further talks with Washington and issues such as reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would depend on Iran’s conditions.
