kathmandu. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath met on Tuesday during the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
According to Foreign Minister Khanal’s secretariat, the two ministers held a sideline meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly. During this, the issue of further strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka was discussed.
At the meeting, Minister Khanal expressed gratitude for Sri Lanka’s sympathy and solidarity towards the communities affected by the recent devastating climate-related disaster in Nepal.
He also thanked the Government and people of Sri Lanka for providing economic and humanitarian assistance. Both exchanged views on various aspects of Nepal-Sri Lanka friendly and cooperative relations.
He stressed the need to convene meetings of existing bilateral mechanisms. Also expressed commitment to further expand and strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest including trade, tourism, education, culture, contact networks and people-to-people relations.
