Battery storage and supply between states will be better
New Delhi. The Central Government has approved the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III scheme. The scheme will develop power supply system between the states with battery energy storage systems. The scheme will support 135 GW of renewable energy extraction and 50 GW of battery energy storage.
The project will cost Rs 1,86,405 crore. This includes central financial assistance of Rs 54,082 crore. The scheme is targeted to be established by the financial year 2032-33. This assistance will also be helpful in reducing transmission charges and controlling the cost of electricity within the state.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the proposal to this effect. Union Minister Ashwani Vaishnav gave information about the decisions of the Cabinet at the National Media Centre.
According to the minister, this will facilitate integration of renewable energy and power extraction within the state. Interstate transmission will be strengthened. The scheme will be helpful in achieving the target of installing 900 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by the year 2035.
He said that this will help in controlling irregular power supply, grid congestion and power cuts during times of high demand. Besides, the demand for non-solar energy can also be met. GEC-III will be helpful in achieving India’s target of 900 GW installed non-fossil energy capacity by 2035. It will contribute to long-term energy security, reduce carbon footprint and create jobs in the power, manufacturing, construction and energy storage sectors.
