Guwahati: Such excitement of cricket was seen in Guwahati, in which records were being made and old figures were left behind. West Indies scored a huge score of 405 runs in 50 overs, but Indian batsmen proved this target to be dwarf. Captain Shubhman Gill played a historic inning of 223* runs, due to which India created history by achieving the target of 406 runs in just 43.3 overs. This is India’s biggest successful run chase in ODI cricket. India’s successful run chase of 406 is only the second time they have chased a target of 400 or more in ODI cricket. Earlier, South Africa had achieved the target of 438 runs against Australia in Johannesburg in 2006.
On the strength of captain Shubman Gill, Team India won the second consecutive match and took an unassailable lead in the 3-match ODI series. Gill made a series of records during his captaincy innings. He completed his double century in just 117 balls and became the fastest batsman to score a double century in ODI history. Earlier, the record for the fastest ODI double century was in the name of Ishan Kishan, who achieved this feat in 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022. Gill left this record behind by a margin of 9 balls.
Captain created a new record
Not only this, Gill also scored the fastest ODI century as an Indian captain. He achieved this feat in 117 balls. Earlier he had completed his century in 62 balls. Not only this, this is the biggest unbeaten innings while chasing the target in all types of List A cricket. Gill overtook Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar’s unbeaten record of 208 runs in the Dhaka Premier League in 2019.
Gill got excellent support from Rohit Sharma during this historic innings. Rohit completed his century in 72 balls and was out after scoring 101 runs. Together they made a partnership of 255 runs. After this, Gill also formed a useful partnership with Virat Kohli. Although Kohli was out after scoring 29 runs, by then India was moving strongly towards victory.West Indies scored a mountain
