Assam Police on Saturday said it has started investigation into the horrific incident in which bouncers from a nightclub in Guwahati’s Khanapara area allegedly stripped a woman and thrashed her. Investigators are trying to find out what started the fight and how the situation escalated into an alleged assault.
Officials said the manager of the nightclub where the shocking incident took place has been taken into custody and other staff are being interrogated. Police are trying to trace the incident and identify the people involved. According to reports, the horrifying incident took place at ‘The Locals Cafe and Lounge’ in Khanapara on Friday. Purported videos of this incident have surfaced on social media, raising concerns over the alleged treatment of the woman inside the club.
In a video, the woman is seen lying on the ground without clothes while two women, claimed to be bouncers, are kicking and assaulting her. Several men are seen standing nearby. In another video, a woman is seen trying to help the victim. According to initial reports, the woman was allegedly thrown to the ground and assaulted inside the club. She was then taken from the fourth floor to what appeared to be the club’s parking lot or basement. Police are now investigating what happened just before the alleged assault and whether there was any argument between the woman and the club’s bouncers before the incident.
DCP East Ram Pegu said that the night club manager has been detained for questioning. The police have also indicated that further legal action will be taken after questioning and examining the available evidence. The woman seen in the video has not been identified yet. According to reports, a security guard claimed that the argument started after a female bouncer objected to the woman’s attire and the woman then attacked the bouncer with a bottle.
However, these claims have not been independently confirmed and are part of a set of circumstances that police are investigating. Club management have not issued any detailed public statement on these allegations. It is expected that the police will interrogate other staff and examine the video going viral online to find out the role of the people present at the time of the incident.
