Tehran. Iran has summoned the Norwegian ambassador over Starlink operations. This step has been taken in protest against Oslo’s continued policy of taking no action on Starlink satellite internet operations running without permission in some parts of Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Director General Mohammad Hassanejad Pirkoohi called Ambassador Pål Björnstad on Sunday and handed over an official note of protest, Iran’s state Press TV said in a statement released by Al Jazeera.
Pirkuhi accused the US and Israel of systematically misusing Starlink to pursue an interference agenda against Iran. It is noteworthy that Starlink is related to American billionaire Elon Musk’s company SpaceX.
He said Norway had failed to fulfill its legal responsibility as a country to register for Starlink services with the United Nations’ International Telecommunication Union.
“The Norwegian government has a responsibility to take necessary steps to prevent unauthorized Starlink transmissions over Iranian territory,” he said.
He said that Norway has ignored Iran’s requests. “This poses an increased threat to Iran’s national security and regional sovereignty.”
