New Delhi. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed about the attack on a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The MEA issued a statement saying that the Panama-flagged ship ‘MT on Peace’ (IMO 9893204) passing through the Strait of Hormuz near the Oman coast was attacked on Tuesday. There were 17 Indian nationals among the 19-member crew on board, of whom a total of 12 were injured. Of these, 11 were Indian sailors.
India has strongly condemned this attack and expressed deep concern over the frequent attacks on commercial ships in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, “A projectile hit the ship while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. 12 crew members were injured in the attack, of which 11 are Indian citizens.”
It further added that with the assistance of Omani authorities, all injured crew members were evacuated from the ship and safely taken to Khasab, Oman, where they are being given medical treatment. India has expressed gratitude to Omani authorities for their help during this period.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the frequent incidents of attacks on ships in the region are a matter of grave concern for India. India reiterated its appeal to immediately stop such attacks in the interest of peace and stability in the region.
“The targeting of commercial ships, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end. Shipping and trade through international waterways must be restored as soon as possible,” the statement said.
Hormuz is a very important route for global maritime trade. Affecting the movement of ships here can affect not only regional security but also international trade and energy supply.
India has clarified that ensuring safe navigation and unhindered commercial activities in international waterways is essential for regional peace and stability.
