Himachal Pradesh is included in the most sensitive zone 4 and 5 from earthquake point of view. A few months ago, according to the new seismic map of the Bureau of Indian Standards, the entire Himachal Pradesh was included in Zone-6, the most dangerous zone for earthquakes, but later the Central Government has canceled this new Zone-6 standard and re-imposed the old seismic standard. Under the new earthquake design code, the entire Himalayan region and Himachal Pradesh were placed in the highest risk Zone-6, making the entire state vulnerable. After administrative review and questions raised on the new standards, the government canceled the new map/standard of Zone-6 and reinstated the old seismic standards.
