Indians at the Hundred, Matchday 7: Jemimah Rodrigues scores 32 as Southern Brave pips MI London by one run

Jemimah Rodrigues’ 22-ball 32 proved to be a match-winning effort as she helped Southern Brave post 126/7 against MI London in a group fixture of The Hundred. The outfit managed a thrilling defence, snapping up a close win by just one run in Southampton on Monday.

Jemimah along with Delhi Capitals teammate Laura Wolvaardt gave Brave a fantastic platform to stage big score after being asked to bat. Coming in at number four, she and Wolvaardt began with caution, especially against Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr.

The Indian middle order mainstay eventually began finding the boundaries, whipping out her signature sweeps too to keep the scoreboard ticking. She and Wolvaardt got Southern Brave to 104/2 before Matthews got the better of Jemimah. Brave then lost the plot a little, scoring its next 22 runs at the cost of five wickets.

Matthews then starred with the bat, taking control of a sluggish chase. She got to 32 off 28 balls before she fell to Issy Wong’s leg stump ploy, finding her woodwork shattered behind her. MI London continued to struggle, with Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Sarah Glenn and the band managing to slow the scoring and pressuring Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Hollie Armitage to try and take risks.

Jemimah had the chance to send Wyatt-Hodge back early, but squandered the chance when she spilt a tough chance running in from deep midwicket off Glenn’s bowling off a pull shot aimed at the fence. The veteran English batter nearly saw MI London through, but some smart bowling and Brave holding their nerve helped the side seal a tense win.

“This team has great belief. What sets us apart is the calmness. We kept believeing. Said one wicket can turn things. It was a tricky wicket. If you hit good lengths, tough to hit boundaries. I know I am standing here, but one of our bowlers should have got it, they bowled really well,” Jemimah said on her player of the match honour.
