Chamari Athapaththu breathed fire with the ball against Indonesia as she helped Sri Lanka register a thumping 75-run win in their Women’s Asia Cup group B encounter at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Nilakshika Silva’s timely 35-ball 50 helped Sri Lanka post 124/7 after some early stutters after which the Lankan skipper blew Indonesia away with her imperious spell. She gave away just five runs, claiming seven wickets which included a historic hattrick.
Sri Lanka is the defending champion in this edition. This victory over debutant Indonesia helps them sit pretty at the top of group B standings with four points and an impressive net run rate of +4.129. Only India has a better NRR (+4.700) but is drawn in Group A.
