Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to strengthen its squad as it prepares to defend its title at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) mini-auction in Kochi on October 28.
RCB was the dominant side last season, winning seven of its nine matches and defeating every opponent at least once on its way to the title. Its triumph was all the more impressive given that it had to do without star player Ellyse Perry, who withdrew from the competition for personal reasons.
Perry’s return for the 2027 season will further strengthen the defending champion. However, RCB has been ruthless with its retention strategy, releasing powerful opener Grace Harris as well as Gautami Naik, who won the Player of the Match award in just her fourth WPL appearance. Experienced batter Dayalan Hemalatha and English left-arm spinner Linsey Smith were also let go after making only a handful of appearances last season.
Possible auction targets: The releases of Gautami and Hemalatha suggest that RCB could be looking for an Indian middle-order batter to fill the No. 4 role. Perry’s return should help offset Harris’ departure, with Georgia Voll likely to move into the opening slot. Smith’s release, meanwhile, leaves RCB with room to pursue an overseas bowler who could provide cover for Lauren Bell.
