IPL 2027 news: Who is Jack Edwards? CSK recruit who claimed an ODI five-for for Australia

Jack Edwards is an Australian seam-bowling all-rounder who has emerged as one of the country’s promising young talents. The 26-year-old joins Chennai Super Kings from Sunrisers Hyderabad in a trade ahead of the IPL 2027 auction, scheduled for December 16.

Edwards is a familiar name in Australian domestic cricket, having represented Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. He has also toured India several times with Australia A, gaining experience of subcontinental conditions. In the United States, he played for Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket under the guidance of Ricky Ponting.

At the IPL 2026 auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad outbid Chennai Super Kings to secure Edwards’ services. He was the only uncapped overseas player to be picked at the auction, with SRH acquiring him for Rs. 3 crore. However, his maiden IPL campaign never took off as a foot injury ruled him out of the entire season.

Edwards has since taken significant strides in international cricket. He made his ODI and T20I debuts for Australia in 2026, underlining his growing reputation as a seam-bowling all-rounder. He made an immediate impression in the 50-over format, claiming a five-wicket haul in just his second ODI, against South Africa in Johannesburg.

His ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him an interesting addition to CSK’s squad. Having missed out on his first opportunity to play in the IPL, Edwards will now hope to make his mark in yellow under the franchise’s management in the 2027 season.
