Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurabh Das has filed a case of Rs 2 crore in the Delhi High Court against political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra and some media organizations. Saurabh Das has alleged that his privacy was violated by making his personal information including his residential address public. Is it a crime to tell someone’s home address? Know the whole matter. What allegation did Saurabh Das make? CJP spokesperson Saurabh Das has made a legal news portal, a media platform, another portal and social media accounts associated with a newspaper as defendants in the case. He has alleged that he has been living in a rented house in Greater Kailash since early 2025 and that representatives of a media platform forcibly entered the premises, recorded its interiors and later published the footage on the X handle on August 5. The lawsuit states that the video was viewed more than 21 lakh times and was republished on August 10. Who made the allegation? Saurabh Das has alleged that Abhijit Iyer Mitra made his residence address public during a program on a news portal. Also, he revealed the identity of Das’s neighbor and claimed that the monthly rent of his house is around Rs 7 lakh. Saurabh Das says that even after this, Mitra allegedly shared many posts related to his personal information on social media. A notice of Rs 2 crore was sent. Apart from a compensation of Rs 2 crore, a demand has also been made in the case to ban further publishing or broadcasting of the related material and to remove the video. Saurabh Das has said in the petition that due to repeated disclosure of his personal information, there is a serious threat to his security. He claims that given the violent threats he has received in the past, making such information public could lead to anti-social elements locating his home and increasing the risk of threats, harassment or physical harm to him and his family. Is it a crime to make someone’s address public? The personal address of any person is his personal information. Disclosing this without consent is considered a privacy violation under Indian law and global privacy policies (such as the IT Act). If the person is harmed, threatened or stalked by sharing the address, the victim can take legal action.
