Ash gourd juice or methi water: Which is better this summer?
As summer temperatures continue to rise across India, many people are turning to traditional drinks such as ash gourd juice and methi seed water to stay healthy and hydrated. While both are known for their wellness benefits, experts say they serve very different purposes.
According to Archana, Chief Dietitian at KIMS Hospitals, Mahadevapura, ash gourd juice is particularly effective for cooling and hydration, while methi seed water is more beneficial for metabolic and digestive health.
Ash gourd juice helps beat the heat
Ash gourd, also known as white pumpkin or winter melon, contains more than 96 per cent water, making it one of the most hydrating foods during summer.
Experts say the juice helps reduce body heat, supports kidney function and soothes the digestive system. It may also benefit people experiencing acidity, heat-related fatigue, urinary discomfort and mild constipation.
Ash gourd juice is best consumed fresh in the morning without added sugar or salt.
Methi water supports digestion and blood sugar control
Methi seed water works differently. Rich in soluble fibre, it helps regulate blood sugar levels and improves digestion. It is often recommended for people managing prediabetes, type 2 diabetes or chronic constipation.
However, experts note that methi has warming properties and is not considered an ideal cooling remedy during peak summer.
Which one should you choose?
For people looking to stay cool and hydrated during hot weather, ash gourd juice is considered the better option. Those seeking support for digestion, metabolism and blood sugar management may benefit more from methi seed water.
Dietitians emphasise that neither drink should replace regular water consumption. Instead, they should be viewed as healthy additions to a balanced diet and hydration routine.
Individuals with existing medical conditions are advised to consult their healthcare provider before making either drink a daily habit.
