Giving detailed information about the match venue and operational structure of the tournament, Hockey India clarified that the grand opening ceremony of the Asian Champions Trophy 2026 and all the exciting matches of the initial league stage will be played at the world famous Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar. The decisive knockout rounds of the tournament i.e. the exciting semi-finals and title final matches will be held under floodlights at the International Hockey Stadium in Mohali. In this tournament, apart from host India and arch-rival Pakistan, the national teams of China, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia will show their talent on the field. The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has officially placed the national hockey teams of Oman and Bangladesh in the list of standby and reserve teams in case of any emergency, logistical hurdle or possibility of a team pulling out at the last minute. The Chief Minister said that no one should have any objection to the participation of foreign teams in multi-nation tournaments sanctioned by international sports federations as it is bound by the rules of the International Sports Codes and the Olympic Charter. He clarified in clear words that this is not a bilateral series, but a multi-country Asian Championship. This stance of the Chief Minister has made it completely clear that despite the restrictions on bilateral cricket or hockey series between the two countries, teams can play against each other fairly in multi-country competitions, giving priority to the spirit of the game. India's Unwavering Central Sports Policy on Bilateral Series: Terrorism and Sports Do Not Go Together The official Central Sports Policy of the Government of India regarding direct bilateral sports competitions with Pakistan remains extremely clear, unchanged and unwavering even today. The Central Government has a clear principle that cross-border terrorism and bilateral sports relations can never progress together. It is noteworthy that after the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year that took the lives of 26 innocent civilians, the Indian Armed Forces took prompt and decisive short-term military action against the terrorist hideouts, after which a complete ban on any kind of bilateral political or sports contacts between the two countries continues. However, under the strict rules of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Hockey Federation (FIH) and Asian sports bodies, India cannot impose arbitrary veto on the entry of any foreign team in any global or Asian multi-national tournament, due to which the Pakistani hockey team is being provided Indian visa and security clearance for this multi-nation tournament.
