Asian Games gold medalist Lovlina Borgohain joins Delhi Police patrol

Asian Games 2026 gold medalist Lovlina Borgohain participated in foot patrolling with women police personnel at the Rajouri Garden market area on Monday as part of the Delhi Police women’s safety campaign.

Speaking about the initiative, Borgohain emphasized the importance of efforts to enhance women’s safety and foster confidence among women to move freely. She said, “I think this is a major initiative by the Delhi Police, working on women’s safety and conducting patrols. It feels great to be a part of this. Bringing a medal for the country is one thing, but the results women achieved at the recent Asian Games were truly significant. It has inspired so many women. It instils a sense of confidence that we can overcome fear.”

The boxer highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to women’s safety, stating, “When we work on women’s safety from every angle, not just one, it will create a positive impact for the future. Women want to move around freely and confidently, so this is a huge initiative.”

Borgohain also expressed the view that female athletes have a collective duty to contribute to women’s empowerment and serve the country. “As a female athlete, I feel it is our collective responsibility to think about our country and work towards women’s empowerment,” she added.

Borgohain celebrated her 29th birthday on October 2 by winning the gold medal in the women’s 75kg final at the Asian Games 2026, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi 5-0. This marked India’s first-ever gold medal in that category.

In the final bout, Lovlina delivered a composed performance, effectively using counter-punching against the aggressive Bao. Although Bao initiated the contest assertively, Lovlina responded with patience and effective counters, edging the first round 3-2. In the second round, Lovlina increased her confidence, landing cleaner punches to secure the round 4-1 and establish a 2-0 lead on the judges’ scorecards. Maintaining her strategy in the final round, Lovlina allowed Bao to advance while avoiding significant damage and seizing counter opportunities. She won the round unanimously, completing a 5-0 victory to claim the Asian Games title.
