Asian Games: India's Pranavi Urs won gold, created history in Asian Games

India has won the 18th gold in the Asian Games 2026 being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Pranavi Urs has given a historic performance and won this gold in golf. 23-year-old Pranavi maintained her lead of one stroke in the last round and won the gold. With this she became the first Indian female golfer to win gold in the Asian Games. Pranavi also won the team a silver medal.

 

Pranavi, who comes from Mysore, made three birdies after making a triple bogey in the third hole. He scored an even par 70 in the last round and his total score in four days was 15 under 265. The trio of Pranavi, Aditi Ashok (67 in the last round) and Deeksha Dagar (77 in the last round) won the silver medal. India scored 546 under 14. China won the gold medal with a score of 22 under 538.

Who is Pranavi Urs?

Pranavi was born on April 15, 2003. He started playing golf at the age of just 6 years. Her father and brother also played golf, which made Pranavi fall in love with the game at an early age. She made her mark in the junior and amateur golf circuits and won the Singha World Junior Championship and All India Junior Girls Championship in Thailand in 2018. She turned professional in 2020 and started playing on the domestic women's professional golf circuit.

Pranavi represented India in both the women's individual and women's team events at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. She has since made her mark on the international circuit, competing on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and other professional tours.
