Manika Batra Appeals To PM Modi: Indian table tennis player Manika Batra has expressed her displeasure over not being selected in the women’s team announced for the Asian Games 2026. He has not been included in the main team and has been kept as a reserve player. Manika has raised questions on the selection process and demanded intervention in the matter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sports Minister and Indian Olympic Association. He has sought clarification on transparency of selection criteria and comparison with previous selection cases.

Manika says that she is currently among the top players of India and is also close to the top-50 in the world rankings. According to him, clear information was not given regarding the selection criteria, which has given rise to dissatisfaction.

Demand for intervention from PM Modi and Sports Ministry

Manika Batra has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Sports Minister and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to intervene in this matter. He has demanded a detailed review of the selection process and documentary clarification. He also raised the question that in the previous Asian Games, some players got a chance irrespective of their ranking, whereas this time it was not done in their case.

TTFI told the selection based on policy

Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has stated the selection process as per the policy for 2023. According to the Federation, 50 percent weightage in selection has been given to national ranking, 40 percent to world ranking and 10 percent to the discretion of the selection committee. TTFI says that priority was given to players who have consistently performed better, on the basis of which the team has been selected.
