India's Bhagyashri Jadhav won silver in the women's shot put F34 event at the ongoing 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games on Wednesday, recording a personal-best throw of 8.19 metres.
Bhagyashri achieved her best mark in her third attempt after registering 8.14 meters in her second. The silver medal marked her second consecutive podium finish at the Asian Para Games.
China's Lijuan Zou claimed gold with a Games-record throw of 9.07 metres, while compatriot Caiyun Zuo secured bronze with an effort of 7.56 metres.
Expressing her happiness at winning a medal while setting a personal best, Bhagyashri said, “I'm feeling great, having won the medal while also achieving my personal best is a big deal for me, I'm extremely happy.”
Asked about changes to her training routine and strategy ahead of the continental event, she credited her coach and support team for planning her preparation.
“My training process is entirely planned by my coach and my team, but I worked very hard, I used to be on ground at 5:30 am for practice. My coach gave me all technical tips and advises during my training and practice sessions. Body's recovery and diet was also very important, and we worked hard on both,” she said.
Bhagyashri also revealed that a minor injury had disrupted her preparation shortly before the competition. She said she fell while attending an event and sustained an injury that took some time to heal, raising concerns about her readiness for the Games.
“There were no major changes during training. But yes, I had injured myself after a fall, because of which we were a bit worried. I had gone to attend an event where I fell down and hurt myself, and it took a bit long to heal,” she said.
Speaking about her mindset before the event, Bhagyashri said the presence of her coaches and mother at the venue motivated her to give her best performance.
“Satya sir and Pushpa mam, my coaches, were with me today, and I had only one thing in mind, that I have to make them and my mother, who was also in the stands, proud. When I saw them after the win, I had teary eyes and felt that I had made them proud,” she said.
Looking ahead, Bhagyashri said her focus was on achieving a medal at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
“My next goal is the Olympic medal,” she said.
