Assembly elections: Election Commission removes 11,000 AI-created social media posts

Voting has been done for Assam, Kerala and Puducherry Assembly, elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal will be held at the end of this month.

New Delhi. The Election Commission on Sunday said it has taken action against around 11,000 ‘illegal’ social media posts and other materials related to the ongoing process for the five assembly elections. Voting has already taken place for the Assam, Kerala and Puducherry assemblies while elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal will be held later this month.

The Election Commission has said in its instructions that action should be taken within three hours of receiving information about any misleading or illegal content generated or manipulated by (AI) on social media.

Since the announcement of elections on March 15, more than 11,000 such social media posts/URLs have been identified and action taken, including removal of content, registration of FIR, clarification and rebuttal.
