Tezzbuzz Desk- Amid major changes in Karnataka politics, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar is once again in the news. After the announcement of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation, it is now believed that DK Shivakumar can take charge of the state. Meanwhile, people’s interest in his wealth and political influence has also increased.
According to the election affidavit, DK Shivakumar is counted among the richest leaders of the country. He and his family have assets worth more than Rs 1,000 crore.
According to the affidavit filed during the 2023 assembly elections, the total assets of DK Shivakumar and his family are Rs 1,413.78 crore. Earlier in the 2018 elections, he had declared assets worth Rs 840.08 crore.
That means, within five years his wealth increased by about Rs 573 crore.
Along with huge assets, DK Shivakumar also has huge liabilities. According to the affidavit, he has a debt of approximately Rs 263 crore. His total assets include movable assets worth Rs 273.42 crore, immovable assets worth Rs 1,140.36 crore.
If we talk only about personal immovable property, then land and buildings worth about Rs 972.65 crore are registered in the name of DK Shivakumar.
Interestingly, DK Shivakumar, who has assets worth billions, has only one registered vehicle in his name. According to the election affidavit, he has an old Toyota Qualis car.
Although he is very fond of luxury watches. He owns expensive watches from international brands like Rolex and Hublot. Apart from this, he has also invested in gold and silver.
DK Shivkumar has been an important face of Congress politics for a long time. He entered active politics in the 1980s and became an MLA for the first time in 1989.
He is currently the MLA from Kanakapura seat and has also been the state president of Karnataka Congress. Shivkumar, who has held important ministries like energy and urban development in the state government, is considered a strong strategist of the party.
In the 2023 election affidavit, DK Shivakumar had also stated that there are 19 criminal cases pending against him.
Despite this, his hold in the Congress organization is considered strong and he is seen in the role of trouble-shooter within the party.
In 2017, during the Gujarat Rajya Sabha elections, Congress MLAs were kept in a resort in Bengaluru to protect them from stress. DK Shivakumar played an important role in that entire political management. Since then, he has been recognized at the national level as a strong organizer and political manager.
After the victory of Congress in the Karnataka Assembly elections in 2023, he was made the Deputy Chief Minister and now his chances of becoming the Chief Minister are considered strong.
