Attention PF Account Holders! EPFO’s portal launched, but shut down two major services; Your work will be done from this app
The portal of Employees’ Provident Fund Organization ie EPFO was down for almost a week due to technical problems. But now it has started again. has completely updated its Unified Member Portal. After being down for almost a week due to a planned system upgrade, the portal has now relaunched with a new interface and several major changes. But importantly, some significant changes have been made.

After this upgrade, EPFO has removed two important features from the portal. UAN activation and direct UAN number creation will no longer be available through the member portal. To enhance security and reliability, these services have now been migrated to the ‘Umang’ app.
UAN Activation Now from UMANG App
You will no longer be able to activate your Universal Account Number UAN by visiting the EPFO Member Portal. Now you have to use the Umang app, where the process will be completed through Aadhaar-based face authentication.
New UAN also closed
The facility of creating new UAN or directly allotting new UAN is no longer available on the portal. This facility has now been moved to the Umang app, where new UANs can be generated using Aadhaar face authentication.
If you already have a PF account but don’t have a UAN, you can link and create a new UAN with your old PF account by visiting the Umang app, verifying your mobile number and filling the required details.
Finding UAN is now easy
If you have forgotten your UAN number, you can now retrieve it from the portal in just two easy steps:
Enter your registered mobile number and upload identity/address proof.
Enter the OTP received on your mobile. Once the details are verified you will get your UAN.
Death claim facility will remain available on the portal.
EPFO has clarified that death claims made by a nominee or beneficiary after the death of a member will be done through the EPF Unified Member Portal as before along with pension claims.
What exactly is UMANG app?
UMANG is an official all-in-one app of the Government of India, through which citizens can avail various digital services of the Government including Provident Fund i.e. EPFO directly on their smartphones. They do not need to go to EPFO office for this.
