How expensive will the rent be?
This fare increase will be from September 1. Auto, rickshaw and taxi fares have been revised. Hence, the minimum auto-rickshaw fare will now go up from ₹26 to ₹27. Subsequently, the fare per kilometer has been increased from ₹17.14 to ₹18.22 per kilometre. For black-and-yellow taxis, the starting fare is ₹31 for the first 1.5 km. It has now been reduced to ₹33. Besides, the fare per kilometer for long-distance travel has been increased from ₹20.66 to ₹21.90.

In which states will the new rates apply?
These rates will be applicable in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. The RTO has given time till the end of November to re-evaluate the meters. Therefore, in such a situation, if a driver does not repair the meter, he cannot be charged a new fare. It can also be penalized if the meter is not repaired within this period.
Why was the fare increased?
The fare has been approved by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) following the recommendations of the Khatua Panel. Earlier the fare was hiked in February 2025. Mumbai currently has over 4.5 lakh autos and over 50,000 taxis, most of which run on CNG.
