The ambitious 'Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana' (Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY), which provides free and better treatment facilities to crores of citizens of the country, has completed 8 successful years today. On this special occasion, the country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness through social media and termed it as the world's biggest healthcare scheme. PM Modi said that through this scheme, more than 60 crore people of the country are getting free health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh annually, due to which poor and middle class families have got a big relief from the huge expenses of treatment.

While sharing a special post on his social media platform 'X', Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote that the Ayushman Bharat scheme was started eight years ago with the vision that every citizen of the country can easily get the best and affordable health services. Today this scheme has become the biggest support for the poor and needy.
The Prime Minister further said in his message that healthcare is now reaching closer to every home in every corner of the country. More than 500 crore visits have been recorded so far in the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs of the state, due to which the primary healthcare system at the grassroots level has become stronger than ever. He has extended his heartiest greetings to all the beneficiaries of this scheme.
Response of Health Ministry and Union Ministers
On completion of 8 years of Ayushman Bharat Scheme, the Union Health Ministry has also mentioned the major changes that have taken place in the country. Posting from its official handle, the ministry said that this scheme is still bringing revolutionary changes in the field of healthcare. By making high-quality hospital care accessible to more people and strengthening economic security, the plan supports families when they need it most.
At the same time, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that the 'pledge of service' taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi 8 years ago has changed the lives of millions of people. Apart from this, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also praised the scheme and said that it has almost eliminated the worry of treatment expenses for poor families.
Excellent figures of the scheme so far
Since its inception, Ayushman Bharat Yojana has achieved several major milestones:
- Under this scheme, more than 48.54 crore Ayushman cards have been made across the country so far.
- Through this, more than 13 crore patients have got the facility of free admission in hospitals.
- A total amount of more than Rs 2 lakh crore has been spent on the treatment of the citizens of the country.
- Today, more than 39,000 government and private hospitals across the country have been associated with this scheme, where patients are getting the best treatment.
