Ayushmann Khurrana’s ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ Gains Momentum: Nears Rs 40 Crore Milestone
On its second Tuesday, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do showed a promising surge, raking in Rs. 1.25 crore, marking a delightful 20% rise from Monday’s collections. Within just five days of its second week, this light-hearted drama has amassed a total of Rs. 9.25 crore, eyeing a respectable Rs. 11–12 crore by the close of the week.
As it stands, the film’s cumulative earnings have reached Rs. 37.25 crore, inching ever closer to the coveted Rs. 40 crore milestone by the end of its two-week run. Directed by the talented Mudassar Aziz, and featuring a charismatic ensemble including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakulpreet Singh, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Sara Ali Khan, the movie is projected to wrap up its box office journey with a total of around Rs. 50 crore.
While this won’t entirely erase the memory of its slow start, it certainly salvages the film’s reputation. However, one must approach these figures with a bit of caution, as they include some internal studio adjustments.
Challenges in the Post-2020 Era
The landscape for modest and mid-budget comedies, particularly those set in small towns, has seen stormy weather post-2020. This once-thriving genre, which enjoyed a golden period in 2018 and 2019 with hits like the original Pati Patni Aur Wohhas struggled to find its footing. Ayushmann Khurrana, a trailblazer in this niche, was a box office magnet during those years, delivering hit after hit.
Had Pati Patni Aur Woh Do been released pre-2020, it might have enjoyed a more robust reception. Nonetheless, the film’s current trajectory offers a glimmer of hope and shows the enduring appeal of its charming cast and relatable storyline.
