Babar Azam celebrates emotional victory as captain
Pakistani batter Babar Azam is a present-day legend who has attained the status while playing for the national team and has cemented himself among the great names.
On Sunday, May 3, the cricketer checked another feat off his list; winning Pakistan Super League as a captain.
While Babar had lifted the coveted PSL trophy during his time with Islamabad United and Karachi Kings, he was yet to win it as the captain, which made the eleventh PSL final grand for many.
The 31-year-old led his team Peshawar Zalmi to win the final against Hyderabad Kingsmen, who were playing their first season.
The batter also won the Player of the Tournament award along with being named the Batter of the Tournament.
After winning the match, the elated athlete shared a post on his official Instagram page posing with the trophy.
He wrote “So proud of my team, we stood together through everything. Hard work never goes unnoticed.”
In a nostalgic throwback to his pre-teen days when he worked as a ball-picker at the Gaddafi Stadium, Babar also gave a shoutout to his pre-cricket days.
“I was once a ball picker, standing on the sidelines, dreaming of moments like this. Now I wish, If even one ball picker today picks up a bat tomorrow believing they can become a cricketer, then THIS VICTORY MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME.”
The post has since gained more than 500,000 likes and 30,000 reposts.
