Bakrid 2026: Authorities in Bangladesh stop sacrifice of viral buffalo in the name of “Donald Trump”
Dhaka, May 28. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) in Bangladesh, the authorities have decided to stop the sacrifice of a rare buffalo named “Donald Trump” and keep it in the National Zoo of the capital. This buffalo suffers from a rare genetic condition called albino, due to which little or no melanin pigment is produced in the body. The wavy golden hair of this buffalo is very similar to the ‘signature hairstyle’ of US President Donald Trump, due to which it has been named “Donald Trump”.
According to the police, following the instructions of the government, this buffalo weighing 700 kg was captured just hours before it was to be sacrificed on Thursday. Moniruz Zaman, the buffalo’s owner, told reporters on Wednesday, “This afternoon policemen came and said that the government has decided to take possession of the buffalo for conservation. Since we do not want any dispute with the government, we handed it over to them.”
Zaman said officials told him that the government would either compensate him or provide him with another buffalo, cow or bull in exchange for his buffalo. Zaman had bought it three days ago to sacrifice it at his home in Keraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka. Keraniganj police station in-charge Ruhul Quddus said that livestock department officials believe that the life expectancy of the buffalo is quite short and it can be reared for many more years.
The buffalo’s former owner and farmer Zia Uddin Mridha had earlier said that his brother had named the buffalo “Donald Trump” because its unusual golden hair resembled the US President’s hair. He said that even before being sold, this buffalo had become the center of attraction for visitors and people on social media. According to local media, among the thousands of animals brought for sacrifice on Eid, this buffalo named “Trump” looks quite different and attractive due to its golden hair and color.
