Eid Al Adha: Worshipers offered namaz in mosques and Eidgahs of Delhi, security personnel deployed at every nook and corner.

New Delhi, 28 May. Eid-ul-Azha prayers were offered peacefully in Delhi on Thursday amid tight security arrangements. Officials said Delhi Police had deployed additional personnel, anti-riot vehicles and quick reaction teams in sensitive areas to maintain law and order. Police said that elaborate security arrangements were made since morning at major mosques, Eidgahs and identified sensitive places across the city.

Special attention was given to north-eastern and north Delhi districts. He said that cyber teams are constantly monitoring social media platforms to prevent the spread of any inflammatory posts, rumors or objectionable videos related to the festival. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Rahul Alwal said that 23 companies of additional security forces along with about 1,100 police personnel were deployed in the North-East district in view of Eid-ul-Azha.

The DCP said that police personnel were deployed at all the major Namaz places and sensitive places since 5 am and special security arrangements were also made in the areas around the temples. The officer said that Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) and Station House Officers (SHOs) had held regular meetings with Aman Committees and local community leaders over the past few weeks to ensure communal harmony during the festival.

Rahul Alwal said, “We are ensuring that no animals are sacrificed in the open and animal waste is not thrown on roads or public places. Strict action will be taken against those violating the guidelines.” In North Delhi, police marched in sensitive areas like Sadar Bazaar, Idgah, Quresh Nagar, Qutub Road and Bada Hindu Rao ahead of the festival. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said the aim was to celebrate the festival peacefully and raise awareness about the guidelines issued for Eid-ul-Azha.
