Bamboo smuggling openly from Cheragi range of the district, forest department silent

Shribhoomi: To maintain the natural balance, the present government has assigned important responsibilities to the forest department employees. Forest conservation and government revenue collection work should be done in different areas of the district, but the ground reality tells something else. It is alleged that due to inaction of the concerned officials the government is losing revenue worth crores of rupees.

Bamboo is being openly smuggled especially from the Cheragi Range area using the Singla river route. According to local people, this bamboo is being sent to other places via Cheragi, Niviya and Dulabhchhada. Despite this, rangers and other forest department officials remain silent spectators in this matter.

Bamboo is being continuously cut from the protected forest areas under the Cheragi range and smuggled through the river route. It is not difficult to guess from such looting of forest wealth in broad daylight that the situation may become more serious in the dark of night. Local people say that due to no concrete action being taken against the forest mafia, this illegal activity is continuously increasing.

Due to this inaction of the officials, on one hand the government revenue is suffering huge loss, on the other hand the valuable wealth of the protected forest area is also being destroyed. If this situation continues then soon a large part of the Cheragi region may become forestless. In this regard, aware citizens have demanded immediate effective action from the administration of Shribhoomi district and higher officials of the forest department.
